Yoga for Weight Loss


Yoga is ideal exercise for someone who is heavy. Heat can be created without impact damaging the joints. This Thursday 11.05 class (until 5/7) and then Monday 8pm class (from 6/9) takes a faster pace and involves more posture work than Beginners & Improvers classes. Focus is on the abdominals. Aims are to reduce congestion, raise inner heat, ignite gastric and cellular fire and improve digestion. Anna teaches a balanced set of hatha yoga postures and practices. These emphasise toning and strength, not flexibility. There is a mix of stretching, breathing and relaxing at the end. It is for those wanting to workout with yoga, to lose weight and develop lightness through strength. Experience of yoga is not essential. Handouts on yoga and Ayurvedic concepts of food and health are offered, for instance on food combinations and cleansing practices.

3 class members have lost 2 stone in the first 5 months. Many others are meeting their weight and shape goals for toning up.
